CA Reconnects During Reunion and Alum Weekend 2024

What a beautiful weekend it was to reunite in Concord, Mass.! From June 7 to 9, 2024, around 200 alums from across generations returned to Concord Academy. Reunion and Alum Weekend provided many opportunities for CA graduates and their families to connect.

Concord Academy Commencement Celebrates the Class of 2024

The morning of May 24 was sunny and warm—a beautiful time to celebrate Concord Academy’s newest graduates. The rhododendrons were in brilliant bloom as the class of 2024 processed down the Senior Steps in front of hundreds of guests in Academy Garden.

CA Celebrates Successful Spring 2024 Athletic Season

CA Athletics enjoyed another successful season, including Eastern Independent League (EIL) and New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) championships and a victory over Bancroft School in the third annual Spring Cup rivalry event. Student-athletes demonostrated Concord Academy’s values of teamwork, good sportsmanship, and competitive grit.

CA Business Speaker Series Celebrates Enterprising Alums

Concord Academy alums’ passions for learning, innovation, and adaptability have distinguished them as leaders in business. As part of CA’s spring 2024 Business Speaker Series, Layth Madi ’96, Lindsay Kolowich Cox ’09, and Vernard Lockhart ’04 spoke with students to share their experiences in moving organizations forward and offer advice for future entrepreneurs.

The Story Behind CA’s Joan Shaw Herman Distinguished Service Award

On April 22, 2022—Concord Academy’s 100th birthday—the CA community will bestow the Centennial Joan Shaw Herman Distinguished Service Award. This award was first given to Joan Shaw Herman ’46 herself, posthumously, in 1976. Herman, who was paralyzed after contracting polio the summer after her graduation from CA, worked to improve the lives of other individuals with physical disabilities. Her story speaks to the power that resilience, generosity, and an enduring desire to make life better for others can have, and why this award is so important at Concord Academy.

CA Celebrates Class of 2022 with Commencement Speaker Trelane Clark ’92, P’22

On June 3, Concord Academy honored the class of 2022 in the Academy Garden, celebrating the accomplishments and promise of the newest members of CA’s alumnae/i community. A damp morning didn’t subdue the spirits of the 102 members of CA’s 98th graduating class. And in her Commencement address, Trelane Clark ’92, P’22 advised them to embrace gratitude, grace, and greatness.

Rashaun Mitchell ’96, 2022 Centennial Hall Fellow, Exposes the Mechanics of Creation

As the 2022 Centennial Hall Fellow, Rashaun Mitchell ’96, a dancer, choreographer, educator, and mentor, shared his artistry and life story at Concord Academy this spring. “I’m not working with narrative; I’m not working with music,” he said at a dance demonstration at CA. “We’re really trying to understand what is happening in the body when we’re dancing and how we can expose the mechanics of the creation.”

Medical Club Welcomes Dr. Michael Siegel, Joanne Oh ’23 Presents Groundbreaking Co-Authored Paper

On May 13, Concord Academy’s Medical Club hosted Dr. Michael Siegel, a professor at Tufts University School of Medicine whose research focuses on racial inequities in health as well as strategies to counteract them. Joanne Oh ’23, who worked in Siegel’s lab last summer, presented a research paper published in the Journal of Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities that they had co-authored, which for the first time demonstrated a clear association between structural racism and racial disparities in COVID-19 vaccination.

Concord Claims the Cup in First-Ever Spring Rivalry Event

On Friday, April 29, CA hosted Bancroft in the CA/Bancroft Cup on a cool and sunny afternoon. The inaugural rivalry event included games across six sports with the winner of four contests or more earning the right to “take home” the coveted trophy. With CA earning the needed four wins to capture the Cup, following a short trophy presentation on the fieldhouse deck, the CA captains hoisted the Cup in celebration!
