Rachael Cerrotti Speaks at CA about Antisemitism

In an assembly on February 6, writer, educator, and documentary photographer Rachael Cerrotti spoke to the Concord Academy student body about “the oldest hatred,” antisemitism, and shared her grandmother’s story of Holocaust survival. Cerrotti had spent time with the cast and crew of CA’s upcoming mainstage production, Indecent, by Paula Vogel, delving with them into topics of Jewish identity and prejudice. Cerrotti’s address to the entire school provided context for the play, which is inspired by the true events surrounding the controversial 1923 Broadway debut of Sholem Asch’s God of Vengeance. Tough “Battle”

CA's four basketball teams and the coed varsity wrestling team set their sights on defending the Red Drum trophy this year after a huge win in the 2019 Battle of Lexington and Concord. Despite CA's relentless effort across four basketball games, LCA secured the overall victory with four wins on the hardwood. The coed varsity wrestling team posted CA's lone victory of the night with an exciting match. Having lost to LCA earlier in the season by a large margin, CA went into the match an underdog. CA's young and much-improved team was undaunted, though, pulling out a convincing and redemptive victory in front of a spirited fan base. Another victory of the night was the raising of over $1,300 for the chosen charity, WIRES (Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service Inc) through the sale of "Battle" T-shirts designed by the Student Athletic Council. CA Athletics would like to thank the many parents who donated baked goods and/or their time to support the event. Go Green!

Update to Student Enrollment Contracts

Concord Academy has changed how it processes student enrollment contracts — a change that is designed to make the process easier for both our families and for CA.

Starting this year, CA will be sending electronic student enrollment contracts only. The contracts will be sent to all eligible families, using the primary address listed on their Smart Tuition account, on February 13 and are due back by February 27. Your contract will come to you via email from studentcontracts@concordacademy.org. After you open the contract you will find several helpful attachments that will answer many questions and guide you through the process. We ask that you please look for these messages in your inbox

Please note that contracts are not complete until we receive both your deposit and the completed contract. Deposits must be sent directly to Concord Academy, not to Smart Tuition. You may make these deposits via check, money order, or wire. Note that we do not accept credit cards.

For more information or help with any questions, please reach out to Diana O’Toole by sending her a message at studentcontracts@concordacademy.org.

CA Book Club, Thursday, February 27

Our next meeting will be Thursday, February 27, beginning with a potluck dinner at 6:00 p.m. We will be discussing The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai. This book is set amid the AIDS crisis in Chicago in the 1980s and looks at how AIDS not only ravaged the gay community in Chicago in the 1980s and ’90s but also continued to impact lives decades later. This book has won the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award; was a New York Times Top 10 book of 2018; won an LA Times book prize, an ALA Carnegie Medal, and the Stonewall Book Award; and is soon to be a major television event, optioned by Amy Poehler, so it should definitely be on your reading list!

We hope you will put this date on your calendars and plan to join us. We would really love to see some parents from the classes of 2021, 2022, and 2023 in addition to the parents of the senior class and parents of alumnae/i who have been regular participants. The book club is a great chance to connect on a more personal level with other CA parents. Please RSVP to Michele Scavongelli at vanleer@comcast.net.

Spring Faculty-Staff Appreciation Luncheon on March 3

The Spring Luncheon is the second of two faculty/staff appreciation events that CA Parents sponsors during the school year. As parents, rarely do we have such a direct opportunity to share our gratitude for the faculty and staff who are so dedicated to our children and our children’s education. We would love your help to make this event a great success! Day parents are invited to cook, bake, or make “take-away” gifts. Volunteers are needed both the afternoon before and day of the event for setup, decoration, food pickup, and cleanup. For boarding parents, parents who are short on time, or parents who don’t like to spend time in the kitchen, there are many other ways for you to participate as well. You may sign up here to contribute. Thank you in advance for your time and contributions!
