Our next meeting will be Thursday, February 27, beginning with a potluck dinner at 6:00 p.m. We will be discussing The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai. This book is set amid the AIDS crisis in Chicago in the 1980s and looks at how AIDS not only ravaged the gay community in Chicago in the 1980s and ’90s but also continued to impact lives decades later. This book has won the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award; was a New York Times Top 10 book of 2018; won an LA Times book prize, an ALA Carnegie Medal, and the Stonewall Book Award; and is soon to be a major television event, optioned by Amy Poehler, so it should definitely be on your reading list!
