Junior Class Leadership Retreat on March 27 and 28

The Junior Class Leadership Retreat this year is scheduled to take place on March 27 and 28. The purpose of this retreat is for the junior class to spend some time away from campus to focus on what leadership entails, in anticipation of becoming seniors the following year. The retreat will invite the juniors to consider their individual, class, and school leadership goals, and how they want to define their senior year. The retreat site this year is again at the Prindle Pond Conference Center in Charlton, Mass., an hour from campus. This retreat is a required event for all juniors. We will depart Concord Academy on Friday, March 27, at 2:30 p.m., and we will return by 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 28. All students will need to bring an overnight bag, sheets, a blanket or sleeping bag, towels, and a pillow. Additional detailed information about what to pack (and what to leave home) will be passed along to your children as the date approaches.

A note about juniors studying away from CA this semester: In the past, several students studying away from CA have returned for the weekend, however, it is not a requirement for those studying away, and indeed not possible for some. In past years, this weekend has proven to be wonderful, and we’re really looking forward to working with this year’s class during the upcoming weekend. If you have any questions, thoughts, or comments, please contact Sally Zimmerli.

CA Performing Arts Department Presents “Indecent”

On Friday, February 21, and Saturday, February 22, the Concord Academy community enjoyed the winter 2020 mainstage production Indecent, by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel. The play is inspired by the true events surrounding the controversial 1923 Broadway debut of Sholem Asch’s God of Vengeance, a play seen by some as a seminal work of Jewish culture and by others as an act of traitorous libel. Indecent follows the history of the drama and the path of the artists who risked their careers and lives to perform it. The CA cast worked with a dialect coach, a folk-dance specialist, and a podcaster who researched her grandmother’s Holocaust experience. View photos from the show.

Look Out for March Break Boardingware Passes

We want to let all families know that boarding students are filling out their Break Pass now detailing where they are going for the upcoming March Break which starts on Friday, March 6, at 12:00 noon. All hosts and families should receive an email within the next few days from Boardingware so you are aware of their plans. We ask that you be on the lookout for those emails, and that you communicate with the students should you have any questions or concerns.

Given the rapidly changing nature of travel advisories in light of the coronavirus, we are suggesting that people consider a US-based back-up plan should you have international travel planned for the spring break. Our hope is that all experience a smooth and safe March break experience.

If you have any questions, please reach out directly to us at student_life@concordacademy.org
