2021-22 Winter Athletic Season Recap

CA winter teams enjoyed a successful and satisfying return to competition this winter after being sidelined by the pandemic last year.

The all-gender varsity wrestling team had a highly successful season! The squad secured the EIL championship with an impressive come-from-behind victory over Lexington Christian Academy at the Battle. In addition, ten wrestlers qualified for the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) tournament and represented CA well at the very competitive event.

The girls and boys varsity Alpine ski teams also enjoyed much success! The girls team earned a 4th place finish at the NEPSAC championships and 2nd place in the Central Massachusetts Ski League (CMSL). The boys finished 11th at the NEPSAC championships and 3rd in the league. Tory Adams ‘23 had quite an impressive season earning a NEPSAC championship in giant slalom as well as the overall individual girls championship in the CMSL.

The boys varsity squash team enjoyed a strong season! The team posted a 9-5 overall record and represented CA well at the NEPSAC tournament finishing 5th in their bracket. The girls varsity squash program had a young team that improved steadily over the season and finished 5th in their bracket at the NEPSAC tournament.

The boys varsity basketball team nearly earned a berth in the Eastern Independent League tournament this winter. Their 5th place league finish was a program best in recent years.The girls varsity basketball team was much improved this season finishing nearly .500 and sweeping their last three games of the season.The girls and boys JV basketball teams both worked hard and improved steadily throughout the winter season.

Curating Concord’s History

On April 1, The Concord Museum welcomed eager Concord Academy families to its newest special exhibition What Makes History? The exhibition explores local historical narratives and their connections to national and international history through the lenses of object collecting, preservation, and storytelling. Students in Kim Frederick’s Spring 2024 U.S.: Public History: Tour Guide course researched and wrote the labels that contextualized the artifacts and presented them from a new perspective.

CA Poets Investigate Poetic Lineage and the Creative Process

On March 27, three poets with deep connections to Concord Academy returned to share their creative work. Former CA teacher Cammy Thomas P’08 and alums Soren Stockman ’07 and Chessy Normile ’09 read from their books of poems and provided insights into their writing processes.
