Congratulations to Concord Academy’s fall teams on another successful fall season capped off with a sixth consecutive Chandler Bowl victory.
Go Green!
Boys Varsity Soccer
The boys varsity soccer team bounced back from a slow start to the season to finish in second place in the regular season Eastern Independent League (EIL) standings and earned a No. 2 seed in the EIL tournament. They went on to win a thrilling EIL tournament semifinal game at home with a sixth round penalty kick as the deciding goal. The team played the No. 1 seed, Pingree, in the finals and came close to pulling off the upset but fell 1–0. In an impressive run of excellence, the program earned its seventh consecutive New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) tournament bid and traveled north to battle the No. 1 seed, Vermont Academy. CA kept it close until the second half when Vermont Academy found the net multiple times to take the victory. While disappointed to not advance, the team was rightfully proud of their performance.
Girls Varsity Soccer
The girls varsity soccer program secured another winning season despite a more challenging schedule. The team posted a 7–6–3 record and enjoyed a strong finish by winning three of their last four games. Another sign of the team’s progression over the season was that they avenged early season losses to league rivals Beaver Country Day School and Portsmouth Abbey School. The program is clearly progressing toward the goals of earning EIL and NEPSAC tournament bids.
Girls Varsity Field Hockey
Like the girls varsity soccer program, the varsity field hockey program also posted back-to-back winning seasons! The team rallied late in the season to win three of their last four games including the finale on the road at league rival Berwick. The team’s success was all the more impressive considering injuries left the roster thin for much of the season.
Cross-Country
Boys and girls cross-country enjoyed another successful season. At the EIL championship race, which was held at the historic course at Franklin Park in Boston, the CA girls and boys teams both had strong showings. Each team finished fourth, with two runners earning All League honors by placing in the top 15. Torin Pelton-Flavin ‘23 impressively took first place in the boys race, winning an EIL championship, and he was later selected the 2022 EIL Runner of the Year! The program concluded its season at the NEPSAC Division III Championships at Canterbury School in New Milford, Conn. Both programs finished in the top 10 with three runners earning New England honors by placing in the top 20. In the boys JV race, CA placed three runners in the top 10, finishing fourth, and in the girls JV race two runners finished in the top 20.
Girls Varsity Volleyball
The girls varsity volleyball team worked through some challenges this year in the always-rigorous EIL schedule. The clear highlight of the season was a thrilling four-set victory over Pingree, which provided CA with the clinching point in securing a Chandler Bowl victory once again this past fall. The many CA fans in attendance will long remember the fun of rushing the floor to celebrate the victory!
JV Programs
The future appears bright for our fall varsity programs as CA’s four sub-varsity teams — boys JV soccer, boys thirds soccer, girls JV soccer, and girls JV volleyball—combined for 26 wins over the course of the season.
It was another successful fall athletic season by many measures, but most importantly, the athletes had the opportunity to grow as players and teammates, and represent CA with pride.
