Family Engagement

When your child becomes a student at Concord Academy, you also join a diverse, engaged, and vibrant community. As a parent/guardian, you automatically become part of the CA Parents organization. CA Parents creates opportunities to support and strengthen Concord Academy in its mission. Recognizing the benefits of our diverse backgrounds and perspectives, we encourage family participation, facilitate communication between families and the school, and organize activities that enrich the quality of student life and the greater Concord Academy community. If you want to learn about the community or get involved in the life of the school, this organization is the best place to start. CA Parents includes 17 committees and a parents’ council. The committees organize volunteers to do all kinds of activities that support the school, from leading school tours for prospective families to connecting boarding students with local “host families” and managing a faculty/staff appreciation lunch twice a year. If you are a boarding family, there are many ways for you to participate, too! Boarding families serve on committees for the Annual Fund, athletic teams, Family Weekend dinner, and parent-to-parent connections, and they may also contribute via opportunities to provide exam treats, support faculty/staff appreciation, and take part in the Concord Academic Residential Enrichment (CARE) program.

Parent and Guardian Events

CA and CA Parents organize a variety of events for the parent/guardian community throughout the year. Whether you are local or across the globe, there are many opportunities for you to attend and participate. We invite a number of speakers each year—both internal members of the community and external experts—who come to campus to talk to parents/guardians about relevant issues including equity, anxiety in teens, current events, mindfulness, and more. Our senior administrators host town hall meetings and other forums for parents/guardians to ask questions and learn about what is happening at school. In addition, social occasions provide opportunities for parents/guardians to gather virtually and in person a few times a year. Attending one of these gatherings is a great way to meet other parents/guardians and learn more about the vibrant, diverse life of this school. Here is a sample of the many events for parents/guardians that take place at CA:

  • New Parent/Guardian Resource Fair
  • CA Parents Welcome Reception
  • Residential Enrichment Program Dinner
  • Speaker Program for Parents/Guardians
  • CA Parents Council Meetings

  • Family Weekend
  • Parent/Guardian Socials
  • CA Parents Book Group
  • Faculty/Staff Appreciation Lunches
  • Exam Treats
  • International Potluck
  • Community Dinner
  • CA Parents Coffee & Conversation
  • Volunteer Appreciation Reception
  • Sustainability Festival

Family Weekend

Typically held over three days in October, Family Weekend is a time for our families to come to campus and learn about what life is like at the school. Most notably, parents/guardians are able to attend classes with their children and meet with their children’s advisors. Family Weekend also presents an opportunity to meet other families, hear from senior administrators, and see athletics and the arts in action. The weekend programming typically begins on a Thursday evening and ends mid-day on Saturday.

Parent and Guardian Volunteer Opportunities

Explore the opportunities to get involved with CA Parents—welcoming new parents/guardians, leading prospective families on tours of campus, being hosts to boarding students, coordinating Family Weekend events, and participating in on-campus events to support the Annual Fund. Every year over 200 parents/guardians volunteer, whether they live near or far. Volunteering is a great way to meet fellow families, get to know the school, and help CA.

Parent and Guardian Resources

There are a number of ways that CA keeps its parent/guardian community informed. Parents/guardians may find much of what they need under the “Families” section of our website. Additionally, we send out a weekly newsletter with announcements, important dates, event reminders, photos, student and alum stories, and more.
