Trelane ClarkToday, Concord Academy announced that Trelane Clark ’92, P’22 will be this year’s Commencement speaker. Clark has been serving students and teachers in the field of education for 25 years and is currently principal at Edgar A. Hooks Elementary School in Chelsea, Mass. Her professional mission is to inspire educators to teach from the heart, model resilience, lead with integrity, value relationships, and ensure equity for students, families, and educators. Just as we do at CA, she believes that building relationships and making connections with students and adults is central to the work of educators.

Born and raised in Boston, Clark credits her ability to model this relational approach to her own teachers and educational experiences—in elementary school, where her dream of becoming a school administrator first took shape, and at CA, where as a student she stepped into a number of leadership experiences. After graduating from Concord Academy, Clark earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and African American studies and a master of arts in teaching elementary education, both from Simmons College. She embarked on her teaching career in the Boston Public Schools and has since served students in public, private, urban, and suburban settings in Virginia, D.C., and Boston and its surrounding areas. After matriculating from the University of Massachusetts, Boston, with a certificate of advanced graduate studies in educational administration, Clark served as an assistant principal for nine years before assuming her current role. She has presented workshops at local and regional conferences for educators throughout her career, including Massachusetts ASCD, Massachusetts School Administrators Association (MSAA), and the Leading Equity Center. She was also a contributing author to the anthology Women Who Lead Featuring School Principals Vol. 2.

Clark serves as the national vice president for Black Women Education Leaders, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to advancing the accomplishments and supporting Black women in educational leadership. In recent years, she has also contributed in many valuable ways on the Alumnae/i Steering Committee as a co-chair of the Alumnae/i Community and Equity Committee. She enjoys spending time with her two children, family, and friends and stays grounded by faith, positivity, family, books, music, writing, and laughter.

Concord Academy’s Commencement Exercises will be held on Friday, June 3, 2022 on campus in the Academy Garden.
