Sustainability at CA

At Concord Academy, environmental sustainability is not just a goal set out in our mission, it’s a fundamental part of our identity and our commitment to a “just and sustainable future.” We believe in fostering a community that lives in harmony with our planet. We’re also committed to sustainable materials and operations in new construction whenever feasible.

We’re excited to share our ambitious initiatives across three key pillars: Sustainable Spaces, Sustainable Food, and Sustainable People.

Sustainable Spaces

Our campus is a living laboratory for environmental stewardship. We’re actively working to minimize our ecological footprint by transitioning to 100% LED lighting, transitioning to green cleaning products, and integrating smart controls for energy efficiency. We’re expanding our solar energy capacity, including a 46-kilowatt solar array on the roof of the Arts Center to offset campus energy demand. We are also prioritizing sustainable construction to create healthier, more efficient learning and living environments for our students, faculty, and staff.

Sustainable Food

Nourishing our community responsibly is at the heart of our sustainable food program. We’re committed to reducing waste, expanding plant-based and locally-sourced options, and integrating sustainable food practices into our curriculum. In 2025, we introduced the community to our new Micro-Farm to bring fresh, local produce directly to our dining hall, creating a more mindful, healthy and delicious experience for everyone.

Sustainable People

Empowering our community to be agents of change is central to our vision of sustainability. We’re weaving environmental and sustainability themes throughout our curriculum, developing meaningful partnerships with local organizations and creating engaging outdoor learning opportunities. Our goal is to cultivate a deep understanding of sustainability and inspire lifelong commitment to environmental well-being in every member of the Concord Academy community.

Supporting Sustainability at CA

The entire community can support CA’s sustainability efforts. Two examples of the generosity of the greater CA community’s commitment to the school’s sustainability goals are the 1972 Green Seed Fund and the 1969 Lucy Eddy Fox Pollinator Meadow.
