Wood Lily
Wood lily,
Aflame with sunrise hues,
Curved eloquence delicately defined,
Brought apart
By earnest love for me – –
You speak a message to my heart.
Wood lily,
One blossom alone, so self contained
Within this pewter jar,
Wonder filled, beauty freed – –
How well you grace thy kindred leaf
Placed there with thee,
Slender quintessence of green,
Star–shaped – –
And bless together my spirit’s need!
Wood lily,
Fellow creature of the sod,
Child of God,
You proclaim by stillness Oneness
With His grace,
Possess in patience Fullness
To give and give – –
O would that I could learn the lesson
You live!
