Report of Generosity and Volunteerism
The Elizabeth B. Hall Chapel is a symbol of Concord Academy, cherished by students, faculty, staff, parents, alums, and friends. The story of the Chapel—moved from Barnstead, N.H., and rebuilt by many hands—represents the heart of our school, and each year, the Annual Fund is built anew by those who recognize its vital role in our community.
5+ Years of Consecutive Giving
Members of the Storytellers Society have made gifts to the Annual Fund for five or more consecutive years. Names of our storytellers have been presented in bold throughout the donor lists to celebrate their loyalty to CA.
A single lantern above the Chapel’s doorway guides students, faculty, staff, parents, alums, and friends of CA inside. Our Lamplighters are our guides, our visionaries, and our believers. Their support for the Annual Fund illuminates the way for us all.

A named endowed fund is a gift established in perpetuity, with a portion of annual investment earnings used to provide support for a particular purpose agreed upon by the donor and the school. These funds support all areas of school life, including faculty, curriculum development, maintenance of the school’s historic campus, and our financial aid program. Concord Academy is grateful for these funds, which ensure long-term financial stability and represent lasting tributes to faculty, staff, alums, parents, and friends.
We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude for all of the following funds. Those featured in bold type were generously established or added to during the 2024–25 academic year.
Supporting Faculty, Educational Programs, and Operations
The Ms. Gray Faculty Endowment Fund
Established in 2021, a permanent endowment at Concord Academy; earned income only of this fund will be used to provide support for Concord Academy faculty, in honor of Ms. Gray. On the occasion of Deborah Gray’s retirement in June 2021, Judith and Steven wish to honor and acknowledge Ms. Gray’s many contributions to the CA community over her 34 year career at the school. This fund celebrates the role that Ms. Gray has served as a beloved teacher and advisor for students who have benefited greatly from her thoughtful guidance. This endowment will provide resources for CA’s faculty to carry forward Ms. Gray’s example for generations to come.
Prentice Hiam ’79 Fund
Established in 1980 to support the purchase of current events materials for the CA library for a 10-year period, after which the library fund can revert to more general purposes.
Lucy McFadden ’70 Fund for Curricular Innovation in the Sciences
Established in 2001 to support innovation in science through curricular development.
Linda Hammett Ory & Andrew Ory Endowment for Centennial Arts Center Program and Faculty
Established in 2025, with a deep appreciation for performing and visual arts, Linda and Andy Ory wish to provide annual support for faculty, program and resources to ensure faculty, staff, and future students have access to the resources necessary to promote diverse forms of artistic expression, in turn fostering creativity, providing cultural enrichment, and educational opportunities at Concord Academy for generations to come.
W. Scott and Margaret H. Van Alstyne P’72 Faculty Endowment
Established in 2021 by Gretchen A. Van Alstyne M.D. ’72, the W. Scott and Margaret H. Van Alstyne P’72 Faculty Endowment Fund, a permanent endowment at Concord Academy, will be used to provide support for Concord Academy faculty in honor of Gretchen’s deep respect for her experience as a student and pay tribute to her parents’ commitment to providing her with a progressive education that inspired her lifelong love of learning.
Dan Qin and Xi Zhang P’28 Endowment for Centennial Arts Center Program and Faculty
Established in 2024, this fund will provide annual support for faculty, program and resources to ensure faculty, staff, and future students have access to the resources necessary to promote diverse forms of artistic expression, in turn fostering creativity, providing cultural enrichment, and educational opportunities at Concord Academy for generations to come.
Supporting Financial Aid
Concord Academy Opportunity Fund
Established in 2019 by the class of 1975 to support additional costs, beyond tuition, room, and board, for African American and Latinx financial aid recipients to become wholly engaged in school life.
The Casper-Colson Family Scholarship Fund
Established in 2012 to support financial aid.
Lewis and Grace Cohen P’91 Fund for Financial Aid
Established in 2021, the earned income only of this fund will be used to provide need-based financial assistance to deserving students at Concord Academy. Lewis and Grace strongly believed in supporting equity in and access to education and would be honored to be a part of Concord Academy’s concerted, community-wide effort to influence positive social change and to fulfill the school’s mission. This endowment will provide a partial scholarship, narrowing the opportunity gap and investing in one student at a time, for the benefit of all.
Dunbar Family Financial Aid Fund
Established in 2016, to provide financial assistance to deserving students and families at Concord Academy, with first consideration given to those families who have experienced unexpected and changed circumstances.
Elizabeth B. Hall Scholarship Fund
Established in 1985 to support financial aid for a day student who is the child of a Concord town employee, or the child of an employee of another city or town within the normal commuting distance of Concord if there is no eligible student from Concord.
Local Day Student Fund
Established in 2007 to support financial aid for an academically qualified local day student.
Carol Mann Sacknoff Coffee Can Fund
Established in 2010 to support supplemental financial aid at CA, that is, the additional costs, beyond tuition, room and board.
Lucille and Sandy Stott Fund for Students
The purpose of the Scholarship Fund is to create access to Concord Academy for one or more students who qualify for Financial Aid. The Fund may support either full-need or partial-need students, at the descretion of the Director of Financial Aid.
The Walker Family Endowed Scholarship Fund
Established in 2021, this permanent endowed scholarship is used to provide financial assistance to deserving students at Concord Academy. It is the donor’s strong preference to support a student who identifies as African American and male or transmale, or Latinx and male or transmale, with a secondary preference to support a student who identifies as Native American, African American, or Latinx anywhere on the gender spectrum.
Amy E. Wells ’89 Memorial Scholarship Fund
Amy E. Wells died suddenly on Oct. 28, 2000. Established in 2000 to support financial aid, for a disabled student whenever possible.
