program overview

The Music program at CA nurtures students’ passion for sound, offering instruction at all levels from beginner to advanced. Students can perform classical, jazz, and popular music styles and learn about digital music production, theory, and history. Our program builds a solid foundation for students who plan to pursue music professionally through study at a college or conservatory, as well as welcoming those who want to pursue music more casually.

Individual Music Instruction

Nearly 40% of CA students receive individual music instruction. Through practice and study with experienced faculty, students gain the technical expertise necessary to participate in ensembles and achieve their artistic goals. Individual lessons are available on any instrument and in all styles and genres. If there’s an instrument you want to try, we’ll find you a teacher!

Performance-Based Ensemble Courses

We encourage collaborative music production, fostering a dynamic environment for students to engage with diverse musical styles. Our programs, including jazz and pop groups, orchestra and chamber music, multiple choirs, and a percussion ensemble, offer abundant opportunities for students to inspire and support each other.

Music Theory, History, and Technology Courses

We make sure music students have a strong analytical framework for exploration by offering courses in everything from theory fundamentals to historical and current music trends as well as the option for special departmental study. In addition to performance, students can explore music from an analytical perspective, with courses covering theoretical concepts, compositional techniques, and historical contexts. Many of these courses are cross listed in other departments such as history and science.
