Sean Spillane joined Concord Academy in fall 2024. Before coming to CA, Sean earned an M.A. in medieval studies from the University of York and a Ph.D. from Fordham University, where he specialized in Old English and Old Norse literature. His dissertation, Translating the Fantastic in Old Norse-Icelandic Literature, ca. 1200–1400, studied cross-cultural contact through literary translation, and he continues to study and practice the art of translation. While completing his Ph.D., Sean taught various literature and writing courses at Fordham University for five years.
When not teaching, Sean can be found trail running, hiking in New Hampshire, studying “dead” languages, reading contemporary literature, writing book reviews, and spending time with his wife and son.
