After graduating from Brown University in 1974, Howie intended to become a doctor. An interim position at Choate Rosemary Hall became a decade-long gig in the math and chemistry departments and turned into a lifetime career as a teacher, coach, and house parent. Howie arrived in Concord in 1983, moving into Wheeler House with his wife, Lynn. Together they embraced a constant stream of students as they raised their children, four of whom eventually either attended CA or coached CA teams. CA became a full-throated, 24/7 endeavor during which Howie taught math; coached baseball, soccer, basketball, and golf; and embraced a constant stream of advisees and committee assignments. He is now happily half-time, and teaching at CA remains a kick for him.
