Hope Bastian joined the Concord Academy Modern and Classical Languages Department in 2026. She teaches Spanish 1 and Spanish 2. Hope grew up in Florida, went to college in North Carolina, and earned her Ph.D. in anthropology from American University in Washington, D.C. She brings extensive experience living and working in Latin America, including several years teaching at the University of Havana and organizing study abroad programs with Brown University’s Consortium for Advanced Studies Abroad (CASA). Hope is the author of two books about contemporary Cuba. Outside the classroom, she spends her time with her wife and their two young kids, ages 7 and 1, does permaculture in her community garden plot, and visits museums, puppet shows, and splash parks all over Boston.
