Interim English Teacher

Henk Rossouw joined CA in fall 2025 as an interim English teacher. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Houston and his MFA from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Most recently, he served as an associate professor of English at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he received early tenure. He also worked as the co-director of the UL Lafayette Creative Writing Program. Currently, he is a consulting editor for the African Poetry Book Series at Brown University. A poet, his book Xamissa received the Poetic Justice Institute Editor’s Prize and came out with Fordham University Press in 2018. Xamissa is about Cape Town, South Africa, where he grew up. His poems have appeared in journals such as Poetry magazine and The Paris Review. Henk finds great joy in working with high school students. Previously, he’s led summer trips with high school writers to explore Prague and the Czech Republic. In his spare time, he hikes in the Berkshires and wanders Concord with his dog Mila, who loves swimming in the river.
