Carmen Welton
Modern & Classical Languages Department Head, Spanish Teacher, Running PE Instructor
Carmen began working at Concord Academy as a Spanish teacher in the fall of 2015. She has taught levels 2 through advanced, and has developed electives including a heritage Spanish course, Latin American literature, and an interdisciplinary Spanish/history course on Mexico. Throughout her time at CA, Carmen has supported a variety of student activities such as Alianza Latina, cross-country, and track and field. She has participated in numerous task forces and committee work, including the Mission Review Committee, the Head of School Search Committee, and the Strategic Planning Committee. She also co-chaired the Curriculum and Program Review. Carmen lives with her family in a student house, where she supports the residential life program as lead house faculty. Carmen is deeply invested in exploring learning opportunities beyond the four walls of a classroom, and has helped lead initiatives such as a recent student trip to Mexico over spring break. Other interests include playing word games with her children, collaborating with colleagues in developing disruptive pedagogy, and listening to podcasts about AI and spirituality.
