Adam Geer is the City of Philadelphia’s first Chief Public Safety Director. Adam leads the Office of Public Safety in coordinating the City’s interagency response to combating gun violence and dismantling the City’s open-air drug markets. Adam’s portfolio includes overseeing seven city departments and a staff of over 120 individuals. As a member of the Mayor’s Cabinet, Adam works closely with the Police Commissioner to implement the Mayor’s vision to make Philadelphia the safest, cleanest, greenest city in America with access to economic opportunity for all.Prior to being appointed to this role by Mayor Cherelle Parker, Adam served as the City of Philadelphia’s Deputy Inspector General for Public Safety. This position was created after the murder of George Floyd and the social justice movement of 2020. In this police oversight role, Adam worked with leadership from various City agencies and community stakeholders to improve public trust in the fairness and efficacy of local law enforcement.
Adam began his career as an Assistant District Attorney for the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office (DAO). A veteran of the DAO, he was most recently assigned as a prosecutor in the Homicide Unit, while also serving as the Office’s Director of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion.
Adam is a dedicated public servant and sits on the boards for the Sarita and Claire Wright Lucas Foundation (which provides scholarships to women of color who are entering careers as prosecutors), Women Against Abuse, and Prosecution Leaders of Now.
Adam is married to Lydia Furst, who is an attorney in the City of Philadelphia’s Law Department. They live in South Philadelphia with their two daughters, Zelda and Natasha.
