Come experience the writer’s life this summer at the Walden Woods Young Writers Workshops in idyllic Concord, Mass. Here, in the place Louisa May Alcott, Henry David Thoreau, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Ralph Waldo Emerson made the center of their lives and art, you’ll work with our team of award-winning professional writers and educators for a week of fun, challenging, and immersive creative writing workshops and craft sessions on the beautiful Concord Academy campus.
Want to learn how to write fantasy or science fiction? Is prose, poetry, or creative non-fiction your thing? How about realistic fiction, podcasting, or screenwriting? Walden Woods offers young writers, grades 9–12, the chance to explore each one of these genres and hone their craft in small-group settings that guarantee individual attention.
You’ll be part of a unique community of passionate aspiring writers who encourage one another to take creative risks, experiment with new forms and ideas, and have some serious fun!
Our vibrant, supportive, and inspiring program not only allows ample time for writing and readings, it also takes full advantage of Concord’s natural beauty and rich literary history: we’ll walk the woods around Walden Pond, visit The Old North Bridge and The Robbins House, and seek inspiration at the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum. And when it’s time to take a break from the page, Walden Woods writers can relax with new friends, talk about favorite books with our faculty writers, edit the Walden Woods literary journal, and participate in producing and recording a group podcast, The Walden Woods Storytellers Project.
At the end of the week, we’ll gather together for an afternoon of barbecue, readings from the week’s work, and one-on-one manuscript consultations with our faculty writers. So bring your imagination, connect with others who love writing as much as you do, experiment, explore, and celebrate the literary arts with us at the Walden Woods Young Writers Workshop.
“I have traveled a good deal in Concord,” wrote Thoreau, and at the Walden Woods Young Writers Workshop, you will, too—anywhere your imagination and passion can take you!
