The potential of clay is limitless, whether it’s crafted through wheel throwing or hand-building techniques, decorated with surface textures, or enhanced with high-fire glazes, slips, or stains. In ceramics classes, students acquire expertise while delving into self-expression through focused studio sessions encompassing pottery and sculptural forms. In our sculpture classes, students work independently and utilize the power of collaboration to explore form and space. Whether carving, assembling, modeling, or casting, students closely investigate how objects function in their environment.
CA’s Fiber Arts program is a versatile exploration of all things fiber. Students practice and experiment to develop a working relationship with material through the varied crafts of dye and resist, fashion and form, sewing and embroidery, or weaving and sculpture. This exploration enables them to tell their unique stories through the intersection of technique and skill.
Through case studies and visits to architectural landmarks in the Boston area, CA students of architecture analyze the relationships between form, site, and structure. Learning basic software and model-making techniques, they complete group and individual assignments reviewed by local architects. The program culminates in a site-specific project investigating the connections between community and society.
