Off-Campus Learning Opportunities

At Concord Academy, global learning opportunities abound—and the classroom is just the beginning. Domestic and international travel opportunities allow CA students to continue their education outside the walls of the school. Be a part of a semester-away program, take an immersive trip, or partake in an innovative internship and expand your worldview.

Travel-Based Learning Programs

Embark on an educational adventure. Our travel-based learning programs are specially designed to support the CA curriculum, providing rigorous academic and cross-cultural opportunities. A seven-to-one chaperone ratio provides students with a fun, safe, and individuated experience.

All students are welcome to participate in our global education options, with financial aid recipients eligible for travel assistance.

All of our off-campus travel opportunities must support one or more of the following mission-aligned imperatives:

* Service learning
* Language development and cultural competency
* Environmental sustainability and justice
* Racial and historical justice

Spring Trips

Our Spring Trips take place annually in March and provide students with a short-term applied learning program of approximately one to two weeks. Recent programs include studying gastronomy in France, architecture and engineering in Spain, culture in Taiwan, and sustainability research stateside in Georgia.

Periodically, we offer trips in June as well. Recently we have traveled to Iceland and Costa Rica to study environmental sustainability and do community service. For more information about our global education trips, please contact coordinator of Global Education, Ginko Isobe.

Semester and Year Away Programs

Our Semester and Year Away Programs offer a platform for long-term experiential learning and are open to CA students in their junior year. We partner with the organizations Chewonki, High Mountain Institute (HMI), School Year Abroad (SYA), The School for Ethics and Global Leadership (SEGL), and The Mountain School. Semester and year-away programs include studying ethics and global leadership in Washington, D.C., South Africa, and London, service and sustainability in Vermont, Maine, and Colorado, as well as language immersion in France, Italy, and Spain. Living arrangements for overseas programs are with host families for an authentic experience.

For more information on travel-based learning programs please contact director of studies, Alyse Ruiz-Selsky.

Inspire Internships

Through Concord Academy’s InSPIRE (Interested Students Pursuing Internship Research Experiences) program, students have a chance to contribute to ongoing research at some of the Boston area’s leading scientific institutions. Over the summer, participating CA students are matched with research mentors in a field of interest. They gain invaluable hands-on experience while furthering scientific research. Please contact science department head, Will Tucker, to apply for an InSPIRE internship.
