Laurence Vanleynseele P'22 '28
On some days, when Laurence wakes up from unsettling dreams, she finds herself changed in her bed into a monstrous vermin. She is lying on her back as hard as armor plate, and when she lifts her head a little, she sees her vaulted brown belly. Laurence’s eyes then turn to the window, and the overcast weather. “How about going back to sleep for a few minutes?” she thinks. “What a grueling job I’ve picked!” Most days, though, she comes in eager to discuss literature with her students! She is part of the 9th grade team and offers upper-level electives such as Literature of Paris, Literature of the Infernal, and Visions and Revisions. She has been twice the recipient of CA’s Department X faculty support grant for innovative teaching. She loves designing new courses in collaboration with colleagues in and outside her department. Born in the southern suburb of Paris, Laurence studied at the Sorbonne Nouvelle (she holds an M.A. from the Institut du Monde Anglophone) and Brown University, where she earned an M.A. in comparative literature. She has been working at CA for 18 years and has lived on campus with her husband Jared Green ’88, for 17 of them. She is a proud CA parent to Zoe ’22 and Juliette ’28.
