English Teacher, Computer Science Teacher, Scheduler
When she was a wide-eyed youth, Kirsten joined Concord Academy as a computer science teacher, email administrator, and computer lab manager. Now, ancient and gray, she is Concord Academy’s scheduler, but she still enjoys teaching in the English and Computer Science departments. She loves dreaming up wildly impractical electives such as Imaginary Worlds: Utopian and Dystopian Literature; New Media Writing; Through the Wardrobe (And Back Again); Digital Stories, and others. In addition to teaching and scheduling, she writes essays, poems, and short stories as well as the occasional amusing blog post. Her first novel, Black Marks (Akashic Books) was published before she became exhausted by parenthood. Since then, she has not managed to write anything longer than a page or two, but she has recently taken up knitting. With a B.S. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an MFA from the University of Iowa, and an M.A. from Harvard University, she collects degrees that are only tangentially related to her work. She lives on campus with her children, Sterling ’22 and Ridley ’24. A new empty nester, she alternates between weeping and celebrating having raised two wonderful young adults.
