Stephanie Otto Ørvik had a uniquely musical upbringing in rural Michigan, immersed in nature, singing and keyboard playing. Both her father and grandmother were Baroque organists and choral conductors. Stephanie began studying piano at age four and was featured regularly at the Michigan Music Teachers
Association’s state convention for winning their yearly regional competition. She attended Interlochen Arts Camp and for three consecutive years, she was awarded the First Place Prize for Solo Piano Performance, accompanied by a full scholarship to return. Stephanie’s solo orchestral debut was at age seventeen with the Fox Valley Symphony in Wisconsin. She continued solo studies with Christina Dahl at Lawrence University and with Ann Schein at Aspen Music Festival. Her extensive experience as a chamber musician includes study with Lynn Harrell, Myron Kartman and the Manhattan String Quartet. She has been invited to perform at the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival, Sitka Fine Arts Camp and at the Leonard Sorkin International Institute of Chamber Music. Stephanie has been featured in guest artist recitals together with members of the Dallas Brass, Tadeu Coelho, Juergen Franz and Elaine Alvarez. She was also presented by Roman Totenberg at the Harvard Club of Boston in a duo recital with her husband, violinist Karl Ørvik. Stephanie has premiered new works by Emily Cooley, Stefanie Lubkowski and three compositions by Amy Scurria. In 2022, she premiered Scurria’s new opera, ALICE, on solo piano in a fully staged production at the Arts of the Albemarle in Elizabeth City, NC.
