Theatre Camp (non-musical) - Much Ado About William Shakespeare (gr. 6-10)

Actors wanted! Join us this year for our production of Much Ado About William Shakespeare. We will approach Shakespeare’s dialogue with humor and creativity while learning stagecraft in our air-conditioned theatre. The actor will use their imagination to bring their characters to life in our supportive environment with costumes, lights and sets. No previous experience is needed as we discover the delights of Shakespeare- just a willingness to learn and have fun.

We are hoping to invite family and friends to an evening performance Thursday, July 21 at 7:00pm, but this decision will be based on current COVID-19 restrictions at the time.

 

About the Director: Leslie Hackney received her BFA in dance from the Boston Conservatory of Music and has toured with such companies as May O’Donnell, Mary Anthony, Rod Rodgers and Pearl Lang. She taught at the Performing Arts High School in New York City, as well as professional dance studios in New York and New Jersey. She has directed and choreographed countless children’s productions over the course of her career.

Dance Camp (gr. 1-5)

2022 Dates: August 8 – 12

rising 1-5 grades

Dance Camps take place in Concord Academy’s state-of-the-art Dance Studio!

This full day program gives young dancers the opportunity to take various forms of dance including: Ballet, Modern, Jazz, and Hip Hop.   Dancers will have choreography class where they are given the chance to explore improvisation and choreograph their own dances.  Students will be able to make costumes for the dances they create.  They will be able to watch video on the dance forms they are taking and learn a little history about them.  There is a swim period and a camp choice activity each day. The week will focus on healthy dance technique and artistic expression in a vibrant and supportive team-orientated environment.


About the Instructor: Janelle Gilchrist
Janelle, a Concord Academy alum, developed her skills and expertise through studies at Harriet Hoctor Ballet School, Boston Ballet School, Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre, Broadway Theater Project, Concord Academy, Dance Theater of Harlem, and the Hartt School in Connecticut where she earned a BFA in Dance. Ms. Gilchrist’s training led to roles as a company and/or lead dancer at the Hartford Ballet, the New Jersey Ballet, Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre, and Tony Williams the “Urban Nutcracker where she made her debut as the Sugar Plum Fairy. She has taught at Tony Williams Dance Center, Step by Step, and Boston University’s Reach program, a dance intensive/service program for teens.

She currently works full time as a dance instructor at Boston Arts Academy and is a part-time Assistant Professor of Dance at Boston Conservatory at Berklee.

Musical Theatre Camp - Ronald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical JR. (gr. 5-10)

Cost: $1,460

Join us for two weeks of fun as our campers participate in this year’s  production of Ronald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical JR. It is a joyous show packed with high energy numbers that are filled with courage and cleverness. We will explore all elements of a musical including auditions, creating a character, choreography, music, costumes, props and sets in a positive, inclusive environment.
Everyone is welcome, no experience necessary.

Visual Arts Camp (gr. 2-5 & 6-9)

Visual Arts Camp
2022 Dates:
June 27 – July 1: rising 6-9 grades
July 25 – 26: rising 2-5 grades
Cost: $730

Over the course of the week campers will explore many different approaches to art making using a variety of media. Campers will participate in landscape painting, printmaking, observational still-life drawing, illustration assignments and more. This week-long, art intensive specialty camp will help build students confidence using various drawing and painting techniques and serve as the foundation to their personal portfolio of artwork.

About the Instructor: Ryan Hannus
Ryan teaches arts and crafts during the rest of the camp season and teaches art during the school year for grades Pre-K – 8.
