Sam Marquis ’21

Day Student, Lexington, MA

What are you involved in at CA?

I am a head tour guide, a peer mentor, and head of Spikeball Club. I play soccer and lacrosse, and I race on the ski team.

Why did you choose CA?

I chose CA because of the breadth of class offerings and the agency that students are given over our schedules. This allows me to pick classes that I find the most interesting. Because I am learning the content that I chose to learn, I am consistently engaged and fascinated by my class work.

How would you describe common trust?

I think common trust is most visible to me through the interactions I have with others in the community. If I need to talk through a tricky unit, my teachers are always excited to meet with me and talk it through. If I want to join a new club, the student co-heads go out of their way to welcome me. Because of common trust, I will be respected and supported in every interaction I have with any member of the CA community.

What is the best class you’ve taken at CA and why?

I really enjoyed taking Latin America in the Cold War through Film with Emma. Exploring history through a different media allowed me to see historical events from a new perspective.
