In an exciting night of competition at Lexington Christian Academy’s athletic facility, CA’s basketball teams and wrestling program prevailed in three of five contests to earn back the Red Drum trophy for the first time since 2013. The boys JV basketball game tipped off the event and saw LCA pull away in the second half to earn the first point of the night. The capacity crowd moved from the gym bleachers to the tight confines of the LCA wrestling room to cheer on CA’s varsity wrestling team, excitement mounting as the wrestlers alternated wins in individual bouts. Ultimately CA wrestling was able to pull out the victory and knot the overall score on the evening at 1–1. Having not had enough wrestlers to field a team last season, this win was a rousing indication of the impressive revival of the CA wrestling program this winter. Attention turned back to the gym now as the girls JV basketball team sought a win to give CA a 2–1 edge in the event. A thrilling battle that came down to the final second of play ultimately went to CA. The win was sweet redemption for the JV team, as they had lost to LCA at home only a week before. The boys varsity basketball team then took the floor, knowing a win would bring the drum back to CA for the first time in years. Down 8 points at the half, the CA boys came roaring out of the locker room with a 20–7 run and took a slim lead they would protect the rest of the way. As the buzzer sounded, the exuberant CA fan section stormed the court to celebrate the victory and the return of the drum! The CA girls varsity basketball team battled valiantly in the last game of the night but couldn’t overcome a very strong LCA squad. The overall victory had already been secured, and CA fans headed home with the Red Drum to add to the trophy case with the Chandler Bowl from this fall. Go Green!
