Sally Zimmerli Named New Dean of Students

February 15, 2017

We are very pleased to announce that Sally Zimmerli has accepted our offer to serve as CA’s next dean of students, beginning on July 1. Through the extensive search and interview process, the enthusiastic support from students, parents, faculty, and staff, as well as her work as acting director of student life, Sally showed us that the right person for the job was here all along. Her experience, her understanding of adolescents, her ability to partner with adults, and her poise, good humor, and fundamental optimism have earned her the respect of the entire school community. We are delighted that she will be joining CA’s senior administration.

Convocation Remarks Focus on Individuality and Community to Open Concord Academy’s 96th School Year

September 6, 2017

On the first day of the 2017–18 academic year, the Elizabeth B. Hall Chapel at Concord Academy resounded with a familiar and energizing patter of conversation while students, faculty, and staff took their places and Katie Painter ’19 played a piano prelude. When the Convocation program began, themes of individuality and community dominated the speakers’ addresses — about the promise of new beginnings, opportunities for individualized learning, CA’s guiding principle of common trust, and the importance of friendship.

Important Update From the Head of School

January 25, 2017

At the end of August, I wrote to you with an update on the independent investigation we asked Attorney Scott Harshbarger and his associates to conduct regarding incidents of sexual misconduct in Concord Academy’s past. As I shared in that letter, the initial investigation confirmed there had been multiple instances of inappropriate conduct, including sexual misconduct, along with various boundary violations on the part of faculty and staff during the late 1970s and mid-80s. I encouraged members of our community to come forward with any additional information and said that, as our work continued, I would write again to share a further update. Today, I am writing to share what we have learned since my letter in August.

Rick Hardy Addresses the Election

November 10, 2016

As I have many times before, I also turned to this community and its values for guidance. At this moment, I want all of you — students, teachers, faculty, staff, parents, alumnae/i, and friends — to know that you matter, that you are needed, and that beyond this season of discontent you give the world reason to hope.
