Convocation 2016: Opening the 95th School Year at Concord Academy

At this year’s Convocation, Dean of Faculty Jenny Chandler gave a heartfelt and personal speech to the CA community. Head of School Rick Hardy, Board President Kim Williams, Student Head of School Mary Craig ’17 welcomed students to the 2016–17 school year.

Save the Date: Class Socials, October 13

Parents of freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors are invited to gather by class for a social evening on Thursday, October 13 to kick off Family Weekend. Message for Parents of Fall Athletes

Congrats on your child earning a position on a CA fall team sport! It is an honor to represent CA on the field or court. Your child will be in great hands as our fall coaching staff is a committed and talented group of educators. As the director of athletics, my focus is to support the students and coaches as they pursue their team and individual goals this fall. I wanted to point out a few items to assist you in following/ supporting your child’s team in the coming weeks.

Family Weekend 2016 Schedule

Please plan on joining us this fall for Concord Academy’s Family Weekend, running from Thursday evening, October 13 through Saturday, October 15. The program begins Thursday evening, with class socials hosted by parents, and continues throughout the day on Friday, including visits to your student’s classes, meetings with teachers and advisors, and performing arts and athletic events. We look forward to welcoming you all to campus.

Please join us for the Fall CA Parents meeting on Tuesday, September 27, from 6:15-8:30 p.m. Rick Hardy, Head of School, will provide a school update and John Drew, Assistant Head/Academic Dean, will talk about the Global Online Academy. The meeting will also showcase faculty members Nick Hiebert, John Pickle, Justin Bull, Amy Spencer, and Ned Singh discussing CA’s culture of innovation, creativity and collaboration. We welcome all parents to come and learn about CA, get inspired, and be involved!

National Portfolio Day, November 5

National Portfolio Day will take place on Saturday, November 5 from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston. Students who are planning to apply to art schools are strongly encouraged to attend with their portfolios. Representatives from many well-known colleges will be present to provide guidance and feedback on student portfolios. Please visit www.portfolioday.net for more information.

PSAT for Sophomores and Juniors, October 15

September 18, 2016

All sophomores and juniors will take the PSAT at Concord academy on Saturday, October 15. No pre-registration is necessary; the fee of $30 will be billed to students’ accounts. Practice booklets will be put in student mailboxes in September. All students should bring several pencils with erasers as well as a calculator; they may bring a drink and/or snack to be eaten only during the break.

Senior College Visiting Days and Boot Camp

Seniors may be excused from their classes in order to visit colleges on Tuesdays, October 18, following the fall break. In order to miss Tuesday classes for college visits, students must get a pink slip from the Academic Office and have it signed by the appropriate teachers and school administrators. Seniors who are not engaged in college travel on October 18th are expected to be in class.

Family Weekend Dinner

Each year CA Parents hosts a dinner for CA families, faculty, and staff on the Friday evening of Family Weekend. Volunteers are needed during the day on Thursday, October 13, 12:00-3:00, to set up tables and decorate the gym, and on Friday, October 14, with post-dinner clean-up. Volunteers can stop by for an hour or stay the entire time. This is a great way to support the school community and to meet other parents.

Financial Aid Session at Noble and Greenough School, Sept 29

September 16, 2016

MEFA, the Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority, will hold an information session at Noble and Greenough School. We strongly encourage parents of students applying for college financial aid to attend. This event takes place on Thursday, September 29 at 7:00  p.m. The presentation will be held in Lawrence Auditorium, and there will be signage.
