A Successful Spring Athletic Season!

May 23, 2017

CA enjoyed much success this spring! Multiple teams improved vastly upon their performance last spring while others continued their winning ways. The CA Girls Varsity Tennis team finished second in the NEPSAC tournament this past weekend. The Track & Field team traveled to Marianapolis on May 13th to compete in the EIL championships. By the end of the day, both the girls and boys teams stood up on the podium accepting a 3rd place trophy. Junior Sam Welsh won a NEPSAC championship in the discus by breaking a 16 year old New England record by 42 feet! The Coed Varsity Ultimate Frisbee team completed 2017 with another unblemished record as they had done in 2016. Multiple CA teams earned berths to the season ending EIL tournaments as well. Congrats to the Varsity Softball, Baseball and Girls Lacrosse teams for matching or improving upon their seeding in the EIL tournaments this spring which is a sign of the steady improvement of the programs. The athletic department wishes everyone a rejuvenating, fun and active summer!

Have Camera, Will Shoot: 2016–17 Hall Fellow Eleanor Bingham Miller ’64

May 19, 2017

“Path? There was no path,” says Eleanor Bingham Miller ’64, and laughs, when asked how she ended up in documentary filmmaking. When she graduated from Concord Academy, the medium she loved, television, was dominated by the studio system, and by men. So it was a chance encounter with a new technology, a small, portable video camera — the Sony Portapak — along with an irreverent inclination, that launched her career as a pioneering videographer and documentary producer in the early 1970s.
