On Tuesday, Nov 3, students in Dance, Chamber Music, Orchestra, CA Singers, and Chorus gathered together to attend a master class given by the Neave Piano Trio, a dynamic young ensemble that is currently in residence at San Diego University but has roots in the Boston area.
It was a wonderful exchange. Students found it fascinating to witness the fact that just by preparing one’s breath in a specific way (that matches the energy and temperament of the music), a phrase can become alive and imbued with meaning. Students found parallels within their own particular disciplines; as with dance and theatre, one’s preparation using the breath and intentional physical gestures can make a huge difference in one’s delivery.
After the masterclass, the Neave trio gave a stunning performance of the colorful Bernstein Piano trio — a little known gem which the Neave trio will be recording for the Chandos Label later in the year.

The event was a great success, informative, and inspiring. We hope to welcome back the Neaves for more!
