What CA Means to Me

Haesung

Boarder
Seoul, South Korea

As a boarder, how important has proximity to Boston been?

Boston has been a big part of my CA life. Whenever I feel stuck in Concord, I can easily get off campus by taking the train in to the city. Boston allows me to explore different places—the Museum of Fine Arts and Chinatown, for example—and to see the Boston Symphony perform. As a musician myself, that’s something I especially appreciate.

How has CA’s music program supported your musical interests outside CA?

The music program at CA pushed me to explore my musical interests and skills. Through my participation in the Advanced Wind Quintet, I’ve performed many concerts at CA and at other schools… we’ve even traveled to Brighton, England to perform. At CA, I’ve met some great musicians and teachers who have inspired me to explore my musical understanding. Music has taught me to express my feelings and it’s given me a hobby for myself.

What have you learned about yourself through athletics?

Athletics have taught me that communication and teamwork are vital in everyday life. Also team sports are a great way to make new friends—friendships often continue even after the sports season ends.

As an international student, how did CA’s culture affect your transition?

CA’s culture embraces diversity. At first, I worried about coming to a boarding school in a different country. CA’s open atmosphere helped me adapt easily.
