What CA Means to Me
Freddie
Day Student
Newton, MA
What is it like to be a day student at CA?
There are some definite perks of being a day student — being able to go home to mom and dad, to eat home cooked meals, etc., That said, my best friend at CA is a boarder — it’s really good to have somewhere to sleep when you don’t want to take the long train ride home. I’m on campus a lot because there’s so much going on — people to hang out with, dinners to eat, etc. — sometimes I feel like a boarder! It’s cool to have people from all over the world in the boarding community, and it’s equally good to have diversity among locals.
What does the notion of “common trust” mean to you?
Common trust is an understanding within the community that you can be yourself here. What makes CA great is that no two kids are similar in any way, and thus I learn something new every day simply by being with my friends. Common trust creates a safe environment in which our differences not our similarities are stressed. It’s really the linchpin of the school; it’s what keeps us all together.
What things do you want prospective parents and students to know about CA?
The other night, we had a barbecue on the quad. As we ate, three kids brought out their instruments and started playing jazz songs. Some people were dancing, others were playing soccer, still others were just talking, enjoying the night and one another…At CA, I know everyone’s name, but I don’t know everyone. The school is small enough without feeling super small…I never feel self conscious walking through the halls…I truly miss CA when I am not in school.
